When I looked into some literature, I found that these terms are used interchangeably. In a same paper, for example, "temperature impacts decomposition" and "temperature impacts stability" appears simultaneously. Did they say different things when they change the word? In different papers, the authors seem have their own favorite even they address the same question. Let's see these titles:
1. Long-term sensitivity of soil carbon turnover to warming.
2. Temperature sensitivity of soil carbon decomposition and feedbacks to climate change.
3. Stability of organic carbon in deep soil layers controlled by fresh carbon supply.
4. Permafrost carbon: Stock and decomposability of a globally significant carbon pool.
My question is: how to determine that which word I should use? turnover rate or decomposition rate, stability or decomposability, molecular structure influences decomposition or stability. I understand that it is context-dependent. But, do we have clear definitions on turnover, decomposition, stability and decomposability?
