In my article I have summarized the book and its examples on the way digital technologies affect our behavior and society. In addition I have performed a literature review on computer science approaches taken by technologists to overcome this issue, most of which is in the field of Computational Social Science and Social Physics.

Does this kind of paper is under 'original manuscript' or 'commentary' type?

Because 'Book Review' type is only for invited authors which I am not.

If your paper is on the borderline of a book review and a state of the art survey, it might be difficult to assign it properly whichever journal you choose. I'd ask the editors what to do to be invited, but usually it's not how it works. Your paper is not technical, so many computer-science journals might be not interested, but for example "Communications of the ACM" have accepted non-technical papers on social physics before.

Thanks for your response. I have emailed the editor and asked them what other options I have. If I cannot publish in New Media & Society I will try Communications of the ACM.
