I saw the definition of 'Prolegomena' as a 'formal essay or critical discussion serving to introduce and interpret an extended work'. Can this be used instead of saying Introduction in a Research Thesis?

Hello Dasuni, I would say that prolegomena suggest a new vista for a field; they have a manifesto-like character and tend to sketch big, general ideas, for instance in order to establish a new (sub)discipline, Introduction is, on the other hand, much more down-to-earth. It thus depends on you how you feel about your research.
