Hey!

I am comparing the dendritic growth of neurons in the hippocampus under different conditions. Thus, I am interested whether there is an effect due to the treatments and/or genetic backgrounds.

I started with the classical Sholl analysis, but in vitro neurons do tend to grow in circles and not simply away from the soma. Hence, the Sholl analysis is strongly biased. Therefore, I started to measure other parameters such as the total length of all dendrites of a single neuron, the area, the maximum intersection within the Sholl analysis and the ramification index. The later is the relation of the first intersection and the maximum intersection. I did null hypothesis testing and also used Bayes theorem.

My question is if you happen to have further ideas for an improved comparison (i. e. other measurements) or can recommend some papers. Also ideas for further statistical analysis would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for talking the time.

Best,

Marlon.
