Trying to avoid the use of diborane as precursor for B I am looking for alternative precursors. Essays with Tri isopropyl, 3 etyl and tert buthyl Borate didnt give good results. Also the use of Oxygen during the process make the use of pirophyric precursors (as TMB) quite risky for my level of safety conditions. Any suggestions on the precursors I should try ? (suposing having o2 and heptane already involved on the process)
It would help to know some of your requirements (gas phase for example?). Pentaborane of course is safer but has the same problems, toxicity being a big one. Things like BH3-ether and BH3-amine compounds can be used as precursors Decaborane is really the safest alternative, but it is a solid and has to be dissolved. Then there are BF3 compunds.
Thank you for your answer. Indeed I should be more specific. The project I am involved is environemnt friendly and hence no F or Cl compunds. The reactor is designed for liquid fase precursor, although I think I can easy adapt it for solid phase. The main problems are - second precursor is Cu THD and the process takes place in the presence of Oxygen (as an oxide should be obtained). Can you give me please more details about solubility of decaborane? It s disolvinf in Heptane?
The solubility I would have to research, so I leave that to you. You might try to contact this group. They may have some precursor ideas also.

When we growth ZnO, we use pure water as precursor. To get good quality of ZnO, we add some H2. We did this thing 10 years ago, now ,I have no idea at all , sorry.

Indeed I used 15 years ago meta orto and para. dicarbadodecaborane
However I used as a powder precursor and I got a lot of C within the films. I will try it in toluene
