Maybe not exactly what you need, but the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire do have a subscale (eatin concern) that taps into some anxiety-related processes relted to Food and eating.
Thanks everyone! I should have mentioned this earlier. I'm really looking for a continuous measure that has been used on individuals without eating disorders, who may express or experience food-related anxiety without the symptoms that accompany an eating disorder. I think the eating concern and the fear of food measures are the closest that I've seen so far. Approach/Avoidance is a good way to think about it, so I really appreciate the leads.
Perhaps you will have to develop a new scale yourself? I am interested to see which scale you decide on. I could use something similar in my own study population. Good luck!
That is a goal of mine! I need a lot more training in psychometric evaluation before that can happen though. My gut is pushing me closer towards the Feeding Emotions Scale, because I focus on parents and feeding/eating behavior. It's not exactly what I'm looking for, but it is the closest resource I've found, and I like that they created it based off the PANAS. Thank you!
Article Confirmatory factor analysis of the Feeding Emotions Scale. ...
Thanks! And I am sure you can find a colleague versed in psychometrics to help you out. Basing it off a tested scale such as the PANAS is a good idea, but those are very general positive and negative emotions. Perhaps also look into functional and dysfunctional cognitions specific to this topic. That is rather unexplored territory, but there has been some success in predicting peoples sensitivity to depression from their endorsement of items describing dysfunctional cognitions. Perhaps the same mechanism might work here.
Very interesting idea, thank you! I hadn't thought before to connect the dots to dysfunctional cognition. I will continue to keep that in mind as I search.
I have been across this conversation and thought that until today maybe you could find a good scale to measure food-related anxiety. Any thought? i will need a good scale to use it in my study population. Appreciate your response. Hiba
