looks like Palinurus, most likely P. elephas but not sure. You already guessed the family correctly, but were was it collected?

It resembles the species Palinurus elephas to me. Still I need to take closer look. Can you tell me, how to identify the sex of these species?

The individual presented on your photos is a male. See detail of the sexual dimorphism of P. elephas in the attached document.
According to the identification key Gianluigi sent, it seems to be Palinurus mauritanicus.
