We have blood vessels from formalin fixed cadavers that are highly calcified and we would like to measure calcium content. Does anyone know if you can assess calcium with the O-cresolphthalein complexone method in tissues that have been sitting in formalin for a long time? We will also perform von Kossa staining in paraffin embedded sections to visualize where the caltification is located. Do you have any alternative method suggestions?
