I got this snail from my garden and I am planning to sequence it. So before sequencing I thought of getting an idea about what I am planning to sequence like its name and its scientific classification.
Henk Dekker given me the scientific name of it (hopefully). and based on the pictorial description of it from the indian biodiversity portal it resembles the same and few cross on have been done in india based on IBP. And based on Henk's answer only partial sequencing and 18s rRNA have been squenced. So i taught of complete sequencing and to check it phylogenetic analysis of it based on the literature as far as i found.
Thank you so much for providing the answer. Earlier i taught it was phyllocaulis variegatus or Phyllocaulis boraceiensis or Phyllocaulis tuberculosus. Now it is totally a different genus. Thank you once again.
There are several different species of veronicellid slugs in your area (India?). Usually they cannot be identified from external morphology. Dissection of the genitalia and DNA confirmation are the only ways for a positive ID. If you need help with this, please contact me.
When posting an ID help, more data should be provided: measurements, habitat, and last but not least, collecting place.
Dissection of genitalia should be enough to recognize this species, unless the whole group has been already barcoded and its Systematics is deeply known.
The USDA APHIS National Malacology Laboratory has been collecting veronicellids worldwide, dissecting and barcoding them for several years. Frequently the genitalia are underdeveloped, and molecular analysis is the only way to ID the specimen.
