We got a bottle of mounting medium, the stock is huge and I doubt we would use it all before it expires in 6 months, could you freeze the mounting medium to prolong it's shelf life? I had aliquoting and freezing in mind.
P.S. Would this medium be useful also for fluorescent samples?
There's not much info I can find on this mounting medium, but regarding the last part of your question, there are probably better choices for fluorescence. For high resolution studies with oil immersion lenses, the refractive index of the mounting medium should be close to glass/immersion oil @ 1.515. Also, this stuff probably lacks an anti-fade reagent to prolong fluorescence signal and reduce photobleaching. Coverquick appears to be appropriate for pathology labs that are cranking out huge numbers of non-fluorescent H&E type stained samples.
I definitely wouldn't be freeze drying it, toluene and xylene will likely evaporate leaving you with the hardened glue. but you could try taking a small aliquot and putting it at -80 for a week, thawing and then see if it still works. If so you could prolong its shelf life for a bit that way.
