Hello everyone,

My name is Nadia Kristensen, and I am collaborating with Malou Dreymann at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, on a thesis that explores the intersection of reading theory and narrative medicine. Our project examines whether literature about mentally ill individuals can influence empathy levels.

We intend to use the Jefferson Scale of Empathy (JSE) for our study and have obtained a Danish version from a colleague. Given the licensing requirements associated with the JSE, I'm reaching out to this community to ask if it's permissible to use the scale without a formal license for purely academic research.

We are committed to adhering to all ethical and legal standards and would greatly appreciate any guidance or insights you might share on proceeding without a license.

Thank you for considering our inquiry. We are excited about the potential impact of our research and believe the JSE is crucial for achieving our goals.

Looking forward to your responses.

Best regards,

Nadia Kristensen University of Copenhagen, Denmark
