Blindsight is defined as the ability of people who are cortically blind due to lesions in their striate cortex, also known as primary visual cortex or V1, to respond to visual stimuli that they do not consciously see. There are different case studies which show that even though the person is unable to see anything but the data is transferred and processed in the brain. In one of the studies the blind person was in front of a picture of a sad person (and it is proven that when we see facial expressions that indicate sadness or happiness our face muscles react to those expressions) and the recorded EMG signals of his face was also similar to those of a normal person. The question is, clearly we have the data here, can we process the data and use them to make an alternative sense or can we rebuild the eyesight that was lost without the help of the visual cortex?
