I am working on CO2 capture using chemical solvents, as absorbent.I want to compare different solvents like Ammonia (NH3), Mono-ethanol-amine (MEA), AMP etc. with respect to their absorption and stripping capabilities.
Every packing materials (Pall rings, MellaPak, Flexipac etc) has different characteristics.
The best way for this comparison of CO2 absorption technologies is to use the HYSYS process simulation software package. You can easily account for the different types of packing materials in the absorption column.
I use HYSYS software to teach my course on Chemical Engineering Process Design (CENG-416) at Yale University.

I don't think Hysys can tell you what type of packing to use but it can tell you how many theoretical stages you need. Each vendor claims their design is the best and they all seem to work pretty well. Scrubbing CO2 out of furnace stack has been done successfully be many different vendors with different types of packing and different materials. Here are some interesting technologies:

But there are many more. Some like the old Benfield (aka Catacarb) process can even use carbon steel instead of stainless in certain circumstance.
Unfortunately CO2 capture is not the difficult part of the problem. Transportation and storage are much more difficult problems unless your CO2 emission source happens to be located right next to the appropriate geological formation or an enhanced oil recovery operation
