A polynomial equation fit to data of animal population can be used only for prediction of the future population for a short term period say less than or equal to 4 years. An exponential fit is compulsory to predict the long term population behaviour. This is because the latter is the only one that will converge to a finite population as time tends to infinity. A polynomial fit will aways give a prediction that either grows with time or reduce with time indefinitely beyond the period of data collection in accordance with the sign of the term with the highest degree..
