HERE I AM ASKING ONLY FOR THE BLOOD WHICH IS DISCARDED BY BLOOD BANKS AND WHICH CAN'T BE USED FOR BLOOD TRANSFUSION PURPOSES. Can we use that blood, in blood agar based media or any other testing purposes.
Hi, I think this issue is quite controversial to use human blood to replace sheep blood. First question is, why do you want to use human blood to replace sheep blood? And if you are making blood agar in large scale, it means you will need a lot of discarded human blood. Another thing about discarded human blood is, its contents might be differ from the sheep blood and human blood in the blood bank can be whole blood, packs red cell, fresh frozen plasma etc. I assume you refer to packed red cell.. if the packed red cell is to be discarded, then its contents / nutrients might not be the same compared to the one supplied by sheep blood.. so this might affect the blood agar produced.
the main issue in avoiding the use of human blood in preparing blood agar media is that it may contain antibodies, antitoxins, or antimicrobial that prevent growth of bacteria.
