While applying the qualitative content method, discourse analysis was used in an article. To quote the exact phrase, "the researchers have applied qualitative content, a manual technique that allows having a discourse analysis and scientific understanding of the content of the messages analyzed."
Can someone elaborate on how to employ discourse analysis in qualitative content analysis? If possible, please also share some guiding literature on it.

A qualitative approach to study something is opposed to a purely quantitative one in which statistical analysis is essential. Many researchers use a combination of the two to arrive at more valid results.
Content Analysis (CA), an approach of textual analysis, describes the contents of a selected text systematically through frequency and coding and is used across disciplines. Discourse analysis (DA) looks at the meanings of discourse and has two major approaches: Language-in-use and sociopolitical. The former highlights linguistic aspects within a social context and is employed in linguistic studies. The latter foregrounds social context as influenced by language and is used in social studies. Normally, CA and DA cannot be combined since they differ in their core. You might find more insights in the following.
