The matlab can be used to model and solve the light sources and the light distribution in spaces. The lighting problems are already solve analytically and you can already find powerful formulas of the illumination intensity from different light sources at a specific distance. The mat lab is used to make the calculations by the computers. One has just to produce an m-file containing the appropriate matlab code.

You have to look a the mathematical model behind the problem. Suppose the question was, can I simulate the throwing of an object - with the purpose of estimating the height and span that the object will achieve at the end of the flight ... You will then use the equations for height and span from Physics and code them in Matlab. You have to do something similar. Best wishes.

Light or any wave has corresponding wavelength or frequency, magnitude and particular phase or polarization. So depends your target light, it can be modeled with basic equations.

The main question behind all solutions presented here, all those very good ones, is: Why do you need to simulate light? After that, you'll be able to find the right model to use.

Thank you all for your answers, I can see it more clearly now. I now know what I want to achieve as a result. In fact, I would like to get the light spectrum (the light intensity as a function of the wavelength) of the sources that I simulate with simulink. According to my research yes it is possible, I now have to find how.

if you have any ideas for drawing up the light spectrum of a light source, I am interested please (I have so far found how to simulate my sources, because as you can imagine, I am not very comfortable with matlab for now)
