In a previous work of mine, I have measured the sound pressure level (SPL) of three different industries (steel, aluminium, garments) using a digital sound level meter (SL-5868 P). The SPL were taken at three different places (entrance, premise, and inside) in each industry during three different time periods, starting from morning to evening. For each data, I took three recordings and the mean values were presented. Finally, as I found all the sound levels were much above the standard prescribed by environmental regulating authorities of several countries, I wrote that the workers' are exposed to high noise levels which is harmful for their health.

But after being rejected from a journal, I got to know that it was entirely environmental noise and if I want to discuss occupational noise, I need to follow the ISO 9612:2009 measurement methods.

It has been accepted in a journal (after changing the title and some modifications in write-up) lately. But my question is, isn't the SPL related to the actual noise level measurements that the workers' are being exposed continuously?
