I was reading on Knowledge management and Information Management and I figured the similarities with concept of M&E kept emerging strongly. What do you think about that?
Information may be defined as "organized data" and knowledge as "understanding about a subject or domain".
Thus, the relationship between the management of them has some similarities to the relationship between monitoring (or collecting data) and evaluation (understanding what it means).
The logic models (or chains of causes and effects leading to outcomes of interest) of information and knowledge management on one hand and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) on the other have, as Maris Martinsons explains, similar intents. To note, information management is the management of an organization's information resources to improve performance. And, information management underpins knowledge management, as people derive knowledge from information. Likewise, if usually more explicitly, M&E articulates a framework for the collection of data with a view to ascertain performance (e.g., relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, sustainability).
Collaboration Activities across the Program Cycle. Both Knowledge Management (KM) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) facilitate collaborative learning, and require intentionally working with others to be successful
