There are many theories regarding the origin of sex (production of genetic variations and so on). However, none of these theories are entirely satisfactory because it is unclear what aspect of sex is advantageous and how the mechanism works and has remained stable for millions of years.
I think that sexes origin is a natural consequence of partially directed evolution: in the presence of a priori information, gene exchange (actually, the exchange of information) is advantageous.

Thank you for references. I think that such a computation is not darwinian at all. They are possible only in the case whan apriori information is available.
According to darwinian evolution there are no goals in evolution and nature cannot formulate any problem for solution.
In algorithmic process goal function exists before calculations and what about evolution? Darwinian theory denies goals.

I do not agree with the statement that "to survive" is the goal. Organism survives or not and we can not use the term "goal" (in darwinian picture). Goal is aprioristic term.
By the way the main problem in evolution - the problem of enumerating of exponentially large number of variants - cannot be solved in the frame of darwinian evolution (see, for example, Melkikh A.V. Paradoxes of Early Stages of Evolution of Life and Biological Complexity. 2015). It was not solved of course by Dawkins also.

I agree with this for evolutionary computation, cognition and technology. What about evolution - the term "goal" is closely connected with evolution paradigm.
In my theory of partially directed evolution "goal" is very different from the 2nd law.
By the way I don't see any "quantum mysticism". We use quantum mechanics because classical mechanics cannot answer the main questions on evolution.
I find this as a very interesting discussion. However how do you deal with self-organizing behaviors from a Darwinian point of view since, such behaviors are an independent property of the system rather than one imposed in the system by external influences? This also means that there is information, in fact, a priory information in the system. Otherwise, there would be no goal at all for evolution to occur within certain degrees of freedom and there would be no complexity at all. There would be no systemic, neither, nor even, dynamical (chaotic behaviors) that in fact have occur through evolution. There is uncertainty in evolution and selection works towards optimized niches for the existence of species. Biosemiotics is another approach which expresses information that is kept in DNA, it should be read and replicated. Which also means a very interesting topic that does not converges at all with Darwinian evolution, selection and the survival of the fittest. Us (humans) we are not the fittest, whatsoever, our powerful (Cognitive capabilities) are way beyond those merely required for an average existence on a terrestrial planet like earth. Thus, the logic behind the systemic evolution of complex dynamical systems within earth works beyond mechanisms that do cover fractal structures from atomic scales to astronomical scales. The call to new groundbreaking theories is urgent. Such as explainig as a whole the origin of sexes and complexity. Here I would like to share some of the articles that support this lines. Can you please clarify your statement about self-organization? Of course self-organization takes place during evolution but it is not the separate evolutionary mechanism.
