For a year or so I am thinking about the eradication of plant virus. But I have many questions on it. Please give me your suggestions/views/opinions. Articles you come across if any regarding the same please share with me.
International projects are running constantly and I believe that eradication of viruses might be a solution feasible for the next years. This process might take time due to high investments but will probably decrease in time due to alternative solution for immunization such as plant produced vaccines (read the article above).
I am not sure this would be possible due to the lack of adaptive immune system in plants and wide host range as well as potential viral vectors. Without an adaptive immune system plants would not be able to be pre-armed like we are with a vaccine. Viral free tissue cultures being raised for nursery plants can potentially slow the spread and reduce viral damage in a specific region or field but complete eradication seems unlikely.
P.S. This is just opinion and I do not have any research that supports or contradicts what I am saying. I am interested in what others have to say though.
