Yes, there are patents with the same name that have received different numbers in different countries. It is possible. Therefore, they must be cited separately.

Given the disclaimer, I would cite them separately because their scope in claims is different (13 vs 20) and the coverage more than likely would vary on these two countries. Also their publication date is different making them two different publications of the same invention.

Assuming that your query is for an article publication (and not a patent submission), I would put all of them in a footnote and sate the WIPO submission as an umbrella reference or the CN as the parent in the reference section to avoid clutter.

Hi, the patent you described is part of a family, since it was filed in one country and later extended to others. In some countries this patent is granted in others it is still pending. See the attached pdf where all are shown.

As a citation you should mention the one that interests you most. The content is not the same for everyone. For example the claims can change, since in different countries there are also different examiners.

You see patents are territorial rights. So if you get one patent from country X , then your patent right from infringement only for that country and if you apply same patent to other country the you will get another patent no for the same invention for monopoly rights for particular this country. So same invention you can apply for patents different countries through PCT or normal procedure.

In your case, they are the same patent application, which has been filed in different countries. (Some applications are filed in dozens of countries.) Note that these are patent applications, not patents.

Which one you cite depends on your purpose and your audience. For business purposes, the country where a patent is applied for (or issued) is very important. If you want to simply make the information available to readers, it is most helpful to cite the most easily-obtained document, which is typically the US, European, or international (PCT) application.

Hello, like already mentioned before, when multiple patent applications in different countries are filed for the same group of inventions, this is called a patent family. It means that approximately the same invention is protected in different countries with different publication numbers and even in some cases different grant numbers (when accorded). For some of those, the publication and granting numbers stay the same but the letter code behind the number can change like e.g. A1, A2, A3 and B1, B2. The A numbers are still publications of the application, while the B codes are granted. When you would like to cite patents or patent applications, you'll have to look which numbers (= countries), application or granted, first filings (priority),... are of interest according to the citation. When you refer to the first appearance of the technology, the priority citation could be the most appropiate, or when you want to show the novelty of the inventive step of a technology, the granted citation could be of interest... Moreover, depending of the origin of the citation, the number of the particular country can be the most interesting one etc... I think that you'll have to consider the interest, the importance, the goal and the target group for your citation...

Dear Mr Sung, you can use the name of the active ingredient (eg. diazepam), in pubchem, and there you will find some patent references. That is one way. Another way is using the free patent databases like google patents, Espacenet or Patentscope. In Patentscope (WIPO) you can use the CAS name, or even INN or even InChI. Be aware of the possible different numbers for an active ingredient, which means that different patents can be filled and granted for the same compound, based on new production methods or new uses for that compound. If you are looking for the basic patent, you'll often find that number cited by the applicant in the description of a more recent application. However, some experience with patent searching is required like using patent classifications etc... Good luck.
