The COD and TOC are the parameters to measured before and after degradation of various natural and synthetic waste water sample. I would like to ask about any method for the measurement of these parameters using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. I have found some literature related to soil organic carbon. But can someone shared some reference where COD and TOC measured UV-Vis spectrophotometrically.
I have never tried, because this is not the conventional way to measure TOC value, but my suggestion is, to make a calibration for UV-Vis spectrofotometer with samples having well known TOC values, of course other parameters have to be fixed, because they can affect the results.
It could be used only when the overall wastewater composition keeps the same. Main problem is that different contributors to TOC have different extinction coefficients but in addition there maybe compounds contributing to absorbance but not to TOC. E.g. different amounts of sugars, alcohols will not contribute to absorbance but to TOC.

I have measured TOC in treated wastewater with HACH, DR5000 spectrophotometer.
It is very important to know the pollutants you have in your samples. We found that in soils (or water samples) which have a lot of salts, they interferes in the process. One soultion could be to find some samples taken in the same place which you know prefectly the TOC level, in order to buit somehow the calibration curve.
