When soot particles oxidizing in such regime, oxygen may penetrate into the particle core and burns the carbons in the core region, and finally yielding soot particles with hollow-core structure.

Artur Braun I have read the Ishiguro's paper pulished in Combustion & Flame in 1991. That paper did focus on the oxidation of soot particles that were formed from the diesel fuel combustion. However, the soot oxidation process they addressed took place at low-temperature conditions (500 ℃) rather than at flame conditions (>800 ℃).
