Antenna subset selection is a techniques in which we have less number of RF chains compared to the total number of antennas. Depending on the channel statistics best possible antennas are selected for transmission. I was thinking that if these antennas are chosen on the basis of a trellis encoder jointly with the CSI, what could be the result. A similar technique was used for spatial modulation which is somehow very similar to antenna selection problem. In spatial modulation only one antenna out of many are selected for data transmission. unlike antenna selection spatial modulation just selects the antenna from the random data coming in. No channel state information is used.
