New emerging technologies, health globalization (1), demographic changes, new health care paradigms like health coproduction (2), advancement in both health care delivery and technology and educational delivery and technology (3), social networking, new digital media for learning and self-learning (for example YouTube, open learning portals), and technology enhanced self regulated learning (4) will definitely significantly change the characteristics of the patient of the future (5). The health care systems will have to adapt to these changes, which as a consequence will require organizational, technological and content changes in health care professional’s education, including nursing education on which we are focused in this paper.

The patient of the future will be very different, he will expect a unified health team, just for him; individualized medicine for his genetic makeup, a hospital designed for him, health technology to wear every day and dignity and compassion at the end. The patient of the future will be educated and informed about treatments, safety risks, etc; technology and information savvy; most of the care will be provided out of the hospital and he will be focused to stay healthy.

Is patient of the future already here? Is anyone interseted to coopearate in writting the paper on this topic?
