As a part of study on the tobacco retail environment, our study participants were reluctant to sign the consent for (Written Informed Consent) but gave a verbal consent to participate int he study. The fear of signing anything written is quiet common in LMICs with low litearcy rates, and despite us explaining the purpose of the study, their role, anonymity of data etc. we were not able to convince them to sign. We proceeded with taking a verbal consent in the presence of a witness after notifying the relevant Ethics Committees. However, now as I have sat down to document it, I acn not find any literature where similar isntances/issues have been reported. If any one here knows or have come across a resource that documents a similar issue, could you please point me towards that ?
