I read about the following apparatus:

A glas tube with a stopper on each end is divided into two chambers with a glas frit. In one of the chambers a, for example, Ba-acetate solution is placed, in the other an ammonium carbonate solution. Ions diffuse from one chamber to the other, resulting a in a slow precitipation of BaCO3 on the surface of the frit.

Unfortunately I don't know the name of that apparatus, if there is any and if it is available commercially. Does anyone know?
