Abstract

This paper examines the effect of management innovation on a firm's ability to effectively adopt an emerging core technology. Organizing for technological change is often associated with structural dilemmas for incumbents: while structural contingent solutions such as spatially separated units and parallel organizations have been frequently discussed as enablers of handling contradictory requirements of existing and emerging technologies, there is empirical evidence that such solutions are likely to be either unfeasible or unsustainable in the cases of core technologies. Our analysis on the adoption process of a new core technology by a large telecommunication firm reveals the role of management innovation in fulfilling seemingly paradoxical structural requirements of knowledge accumulation in a dynamic knowledge environment. We discuss how a novel structural approach enabled the organization to overcome rigidities in the existing routines and foster a favorable environment for adoption of cloud technology and to overcome organizational challenges, with which the firm's conventional practices failed to commensurate.

While I do not have anything against getting facts for research from published books, it is much more important to CLEARLY establish the MOTIVE for your research: IS IT TO ADD TO THE LISTS OF ALREADY PUBLISHED WORKS in the area of management and IT or IS IT TO PROFFER SOLUTIONS TO EXISTING LISTS OF ISSUES YOU HAVE COMPILED FROM YOUR OBSERVATIONS OF DIFFERENT COMPANIES ACTIVITIES. If the latter is the case, then you will have more listening ears.

You cannot talk/write about the nitty-gritty of playing football by standing on the sideline, being a spectator.

It is an established FACT that management transforms into a highly efficient machinery when IT is INTEGRATED. But the challenge before all industries is the MISCONCEPTION that ONE SOLUTION FITS ALL. The methods of IT applications for the medical, engineering, clerical, delivery, entertainment, tourism, transportation, broadcasting, and many other professions are DIFFERENT. The specifics are at odds.

What I have been seeing that the industries are calling for are the SPECIFICS. Integration of IT in magament brings RADICAL innovations and changes. So, the school of thoughts that evolved the term, "DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION" is anti-change and very primitive. CHANGE, they say, is the only thing that is CONSTANT in life.

So, while I might not be suggesting any publication or article, i am only pointing out some things you might need to look out for in the course or your research.

Hope your reasech bring one more solution to our troubled humanity.

You are asking a very sensible question. Some years back I learnt  that "any body mastering IT will rule over the world". Just take a look around and you will confirm my observation. Countries advanced in IT are ahead.

It is the same in business  management   If the company  adopt IT its performance is bound to improve . In other words there is no doubt that business performance is highly correlated with IT.

In my research I have gone a little further, I have linked business excellence with many variables  including use of IT in Information Management in the enterprise. My factor analysis has given high loadings for the following items:

Collecting & using data and information to follow daily operations : .638 and 

Ensuring the  reliability of IT system (software& hardware) of the enterprise: .568

In Structural Equation Modelling this has confirmed a  significant contribution of the above two items to the business excellence, hence the business performance of the company.

Hence I have no doubt IT is the solution.

I know the situation well in Africa. Most of the enterprises there are SMEs. I shall give you one example from an excellent SME coming from the country rated 1st in Africa, Mauritius.

Some years back the company was paying its workers on a fortnightly basis manually,i.e workers queuing every 15 days to get their salary. This innovative entrepreneur decided to make use of IT to compute the salary of its workers and credit their salary  in their respective bank accounts. You imagine how much resources have been saved.

That is why I said yourquestion is very pertinent and could be subject for a research by itself.

As you mentioned in your conclusion, it is subject  for a research. that is what i want to do. Using the case of our Country Cameroon.

Before then, i have to go through some prior research in other to get more insight and know better how to orientate my research.

Si vous vous lancez dans un recherche, il faut d'abord comprendre c'est quoi diriger une entreprise, comment diriger une entreprise pour le rendre profitable. Aussitot le concept de gestion compris vous pouvez alors faire le lien avec IT. On peut inserer le concept IT dans une enterprise sans le render profitable.

je voudrais établir un lien entre IT adoption et management. Y a-t-il un lien de causalité ou d'interdépendance ou de complémentarité? il va falloir mener des études dans notre environnement, le Cameroun.
