However, in the course of delignification or modification, various processes or chemicals are usually employed. These led to the formation of different networks within the pristine lignin, and that birthed distinct nomenclature. Therefore, we could say that the search for various lignin forms is limitless as more modification or delignification processes continue to emerge. Presently, the essential types of lignin could be soda, kraft, hydrolyzed, organosolv, and lignosulfonates lignin. I'm not sure if any material summarizes all the terminologies, but a little surf will ascertain that.

Kraft and alkaline lignin can be used interchangeably because obtaining kraft lignin involves alkalines like NaOH or sodium sulfate. First is the process (krafting), while the other is the type of chemical used (Alkaline). Meanwhile, organosolv lignins are those extracted using an organic solvent such as methanol. We have seen some work combining all these in a one-pot experiment, giving birth to a new nomenclature.
