I propose the following research topic: Analysis of the possibility of creating new varieties of concrete that will be more resistant to changing weather and weather conditions and will increase the possibilities of using concrete to create building structures and buildings meeting the goals of sustainable development, including high level of climate neutrality, savings in energy consumption during operation, building operation. The research may include economic and ecological analysis as well as comparative analysis in relation to other building materials that can act as substitutes for construction based on concrete structures.
There are lot of topics on which you can carry out your M.Tech dissertation. A few of the examples or ideas for research in concrete technology are following:
Computer simulation of concrete behaviour and properties and testing of various mix design with simulation software
Recycled materials used in concrete mix
Ultra high strength concrete
High-performance concrete with advanced properties like high density, low density, high water resistance, chemical resistance, weather resistance, fire resistance, radiation resistance, ductility, durability, etc customised as per project requirements
Pre-stressed concrete technology
Polymer-based concrete
Fibre-reinforced concrete
New types of reinforcement and formwork for concrete
Non-destructive testing methods of concrete
Prefabricated concrete applications
Eco-friendly concrete
Intelligent concrete with smart rheology
Replacement of cement content with additives, pozzolana, etc and their effects on concrete characteristics
New admixtures and their effects
New technologies of concreting like guniting, shotcrete, spraycrete, pumpcrete, robocrete, underwater concreting, automatic concrete pavement repair machines, etc
Repairs, waterproofing and bonding chemicals for concrete like epoxy and polymer grouting
Self-curing concrete and self-compacting concrete(it is already available by use of some admixtures)
Indeed, researchgate community is very beneficial in this regard (to find out the latest trends in research).
I would propose that for the master's, the area of concrete should be in the terms of making the concrete (cement-based or otherwise), more eco-friendly. Given the demerits of cement-based concrete with respect to carbon emissions, the academic community should step forward and investigate how to make the concrete more eco-friendly (on a small scale) which will ultimately satisfy the needs of the present and future generations; while also allowing alternative binders like geopolymers to flourish (side by side). Then the bigger research agencies then shall take up the idea/research problem and produce it on a larger scale for more understanding. That is the way forward.
