I'm looking for sample data for wind velocity vs altitude. Is there a database for locations around the world? If not, I just need a sample data set for realistic wind velocity per meters altitude (up to 32km, ideally).
If you are interested in wind profiles at higher temporal frequency than the 12-hourly soundings, you could look into the data provided by the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research Facility (http://www.arm.gov/). There are a few sites around the world, in tropical, extratropical and Arctic locations. In particular, look for radiosonde data (SONDE) and wind profiler data (RWP & 50RWP) datastreams at: http://www.arm.gov/measurements/horizwind
Thanks for the info guys. Robert, I tried your site.. it was impossible to register, it hangs. Do you know if this a temporary problem on their website?
@Napoleon: Not sure. But this sounds like a temporary problem. If it persists you should send them an e-mail. As far as I know, there should be no restriction on use of the data. But I have not used this facility in a while.
