Can salt and electricity create water?

I have a lamp which is made from salt, it has electricity running through it to a lamp. I have observed that at the bottom of the salt there is a pool of water. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is the salt and electricity taking the water from the air? and furthur more is this something which can be done when trying to colonise other worlds?
