I am modelling and optimizing local renewable based hybrid energy system for an isolated (rural) community. Can OSeMOSYS be an alternative of NREL's HOMER? #Sustainability
The programs offer different functionality so it depends what your specific aims are. I haven't used OSeMOSYS myself but know it was used to analyse the economics of different energy access tiers for a similar isolated system: Nerini's (2015) case study in Timor Leste.. see link attached.
Note the authors generated the load profile outside of OSeMOSYS, and this could be done in Homer. Also note they varied design parameters (energy access tiers) over the lifetime of a system, which isn't possible in Homer. I would therefore say the two models are complementary, and could be used together or seperately depending on your aims.
