i want to make an organic reaction using microwave irradiation but my collage has only home microwave. Duration of reaction is 7 min and done in acidic media using conc. HCL (0.7 equivalent ). Can this reaction be done in home microwave safely ?
unmodified home microwave ovens are suitable in some cases, but unfortunately it's not safe and also not usable for lots of reactions. you need to find a Milestone microwave or other laboratory microwave ovens for a repeatable answer.
I've seen DIY microwave reactors using a regular microwave oven, but I definitively would not recommend it because of obvious safety reasons. But it can be done, taking into consideration that it would never be the same as using a laboratory microwave reactor.
