Natural manganese oxide complexes exist in the chlorophyll of plants. The are highly efficient water oxidants. Researchers are attempting to fabricate these complex oxidants artificially. I was wondering if nickel could be substituted with manganese, since both have a similar chemical behavior. Moreover, nickel is as inexpensive and environmentally safe as Manganese.
