I have a Parr reactor (600 ml) and want to do a methanol explosion of rice straw (similar to steam explosion). Just to start, i am heating up the soaked rice straw to 170C, and instantly releasing the pressure (~25 bar) to explode the rice fibers. I am planning to put a knockout drum for the exhaust gases. My question is knockout drum a feasible way to cool down the heated vapors? Or is there any other way to do on a lab scale?
