Is anyone out there aware of an idea or literature about a chemical cue of pollen? Bees, flies and other flower visitors use sugars as chemical cues in order to identify nectar; I ask whether there is a chemical cue of pollen, probably in the pollenkitt, by which pollen eating and pollen collecting insects are able to identify pollen, not the pollen of a particular plant species but pollen in general?

Any help is much appreciated
