I want to measure PL quantum yield of CdS QDs dispersed in ethanol using the following formula: Q=QR (m/mR)(ɳ2/ɳ2R) taking fluorescein as standard. My question is: Will it be right in the sense of solvent. I maen fluorescein in NaOH and CdS in ethanol, Is there any problem for using different solvent ? Kindly give me some suggestions.

To the best of my knowledge, using different solvents is not at all a problem. This is because the equation used for the calculation of QY is already having a solvent term (i.e. refractive index).
but there are few things you should keep in mind.
Absorbance of the solutions should be less than 0.1 (to avoid inner filter effect) at the excitation wavelength.
Selection of standard compound is critical
you should select the standard compound in such a way that its emission should have maximum overlap with the emission of your compound.
For instance, if your compound is showing blue emission, you should use blue emitting quinine sulfate but not red emitting Rhodamine
