Help! I'm a master's student on an education course. My research questions asks - is there a relationship between the mean motivation scores and the amount of questions a learner asks in a discussion.
Variable 1: Motivation scores are from a 17 item 6 point likert scale questionnaire - not normally distributed - bimodal, skewed towards 6 (this is why I chose Spearman, not Pearson's r)
Variable 2: Amount of questions the student asked- here is the problem - the numbers in this column are just too low - most students (n=40) asked 0 questions, most 1, and a few 2. I realised from my Minitab output that Spearman uses 10 rows to rank, but I only have 3 rows (0, 1 or 2). What should I do? I'm stuck on how I can do something with this data.
Could I, for example, look at all the participants who asked 1 question - and consider them a group, and look at their mean score? And then look at those who participated in 2, and look at that group's mean score? That wouldn't tell me anything about each individual though. I'm stuck here!
