We only have 1 Newport Xenon Lamp for PCE measurement. Is halogen lamp a suitable substitute for the Newport Lamp? We don't have the money to purchase another one solely for stability testing. If you have other viable alternatives please suggest, thank you.

To answer this question you need to compare the power spectral distribution of the emitted light from the two lamps. If they have similar power spectral density then you can use them interchangeably. The power spectral distribution of both lamps may be published and you can get it from the web otherwise you can measure it. using linear color filter.

The spectrum of Xenon lamp is very different from the spectrum of Halogen lamp. I believe your Xenon lamp for PCE measurements should have one set of filters to gain the similarity of one sun spectrum in order to make meaningful comparisons with other research results published worldwide. For the stability measurements, you could consider to use the same Xenon lamp and run different controlling program to measure the stability when the PCE meaurement are not used. For example, run your stability experiment during night. At least you can have meaning results.
Yes, but since the halogen lamp will produce far more infra red radiation for a given visible optical power than the sun spectrum, use an IR filter to remove the energy that the cell won't usefully absorb, else you may have difficulties with over heating when you approach AM 1.5 conditions.

Whatever the lamp may be, you'll always require AM 1.5 filter, an reference cell to calibrate your light intensity to 100mW/cm2 and thermocouple to measure temperature. ( and also a keithley meter for electrical measurements)..
With this you can build your own simulator.

Thank you very much for the answers. I only have 150 W Xenon Arc lamp, can i still use it to measure the PCE of solar cell? As far as i know it cannot achieve 1 sun but only 0.9 sun.
