About your second question: NDVI requires both Red and Near Infrared bands. If you don´t have a NIR band there are other VI based only in visible bands, f.e. GRVI (Green-Red Vegetation Index), see: http://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/2/10/2369.
Vegetation indices such as NDVI and EVI data can also be obtained from Terra MODIS vegetation indices (VIs) product (MOD13Q1). The spatial resolution for NDVI and EVI was 250 m and the compositing period is 16 day. You can go to the Reverb website http://reverb.echo.nasa.gov to download the images.
Could you be please to tell me the next process is correct or not.
I use GIS ARC 9.0 to export tiff image to RGB and then use the index (GNDVI) which is (G-R)/(G+R). I found this index in one of a research papers. Do you think i can go ahead.
