The paper attached claims to have produced around 600 g gypsum from 1 kg of egg shells. They did this by simultaneously adding CaO derived from calcination, water, and the sulfuric acid solution.

Will the yield change if the reaction was done stepwise, that is, by first hydrating CaO to produce Ca(OH)2 then after this reaction has extensively proceeded, the sulfuric acid solution is added?

(1) CaO + H2O --> Ca(OH)2

(2) Ca(OH)2 + H2SO4 --> CaSO4 - 2H2O (gypsum)

Thank you.
