I have a CRO performing mouse assays but they don't have in house molecular biology facility and we have to transport spleens to a different facility in a different city. We can expedite shipping but i was wondering if it was okay to preserve the spleen on Ice or Dry ice during transport to the new facility and later isolate splenocytes without any damage to cells.
Freezing the organ will cause a significant amount of damage to the cells. Transporting the tissue on ice is a much better method, but it's is still likely that the cells will be altered and/or damaged if transport takes more than a few hours.
We use a solution from Miltenyi to store tissues as long as overnight in the fridge and get decent viability. They specifically mention spleen on the website I believe.
