Narratology deals with common minimum patterns or styles or structures in two or more systems. for example, in cultural studies, we can have multiple similar narratives from folk, cult, myth, heritage, or religion. This can be used in the convergence of media.
There is plenty of research on narratology whether from a purely critical or even linguistic and discourse perspective. Your data and hypothesis decide whether you adopt a qualitative, quantitative or an elective approach. As to your reading list , I’d recommend you start with the works of Vladimir Propp, Gerard Genette , Gerald Prince, Seymour Chatman, Chapman, Monica Fludernik, Jonathan Culler, etc. Then, you can move up to Roland Barthes, Julie Kristeva, Todorov, Bakhtin, and others. Best wishes
In literary discourse, by and large, focusing on the narrative aspect of a literary text, ontologically or epistemologically, came under the category of narratology. If you are looking for a pure theoretical framework, first of all you have to determine either it is a realistic, modern or postmodern text. Best.@
