After I conducted interviews with my participants and started coding, I realized that I have not covered one of my research questions. I decided to add a few questions in the form of an online questionnaire and ask them to answer them. Would that cause any issues in the methodology?
Has anyone been through the same issue before and how can I solve it?
I don't think there would be methodological issues, but I'm less sure about ethical issues. I think you would need approve from your ethics board or equivalent to modify your data collection.
You can do what you need to do as long as you in the method section exactly report what you did, so that the next researcher who wants to repeat your research can do exactly the same thing. I had to call Miss P several times in this paper:
I'm with David - Wiam. It is very 'risky' to modify data collection without formal ethical approval. If any issues arose from your participants (even though that is unlikley to occur) you will have breached the conditions of your ethical approval. With research 'integrity' in the spotlight at the moment with the withdrawal of covid studies from the Lancet etc - ethical committees will be particularly vigilant.
If you do amend your questions etc - Beatrice is correct. It wouldn't change your methodology - unless you have moved from qualitative to quantitative questions (not sure on that) - but you should detail the process clearly in your writing up.
Thank you for your responses. That really helps. In that case, I will make sure to amend the ethics form and obtain participants' consent before moving ahead with the questionnaires. My main concern was for my data and the methodology.
