I have conducted a systematic review and one of the reviewers had mentioned about missing out on some good studies from the sample. on the surface the study is on a different topic but after an in-depth reading of the mentioned paper, I also feel the comment is valid and the study should be included but somehow I skipped it in my search strategy. Is it possible to alter the original sample of studies without affecting the credibility of my paper?

Just addd it. It is up to reviewers to assess your changes. If they miss them, too bad. As long as you are happy :)
It's fine to add a new study and it will not affect the credibility of your manuscript, but mention that in the cover letter or response to reviewers letter and give a justification.
