The construction industry needs nano material to have crack free structures. CNTs have been found to be the best aliter for mixing with cement/concrete. The nano concrete is the highest demand at present.
Mere huge demand for a material will not bring down its cost but when the production cost is cut down and when you optimize the process for having maximum recovery of the desired product in this case carbon nanotubes.
I cannot believe that a low cost item like cement or concrete, sold in tons, can benefit from adding an exceedingly expensive component such as CNT's. The technical benefits would have to be enormous to allow this.
IMHO, the economic penalty is just too high to allow this. The literature says 'great potential' but without analyzing the cost penalties. However there are additives including CNT's that could be viable. See: http://www.edencrete.com/
There is no relation between demand of a material and its production cost. The high demand of a material wont alter the cost of production in any way..but CNTs are produced in a large scale by low cost synthesis.
