We are working on a project where hedonism is an independent variable. We have decided on an experimental design which means we have to manipulate hedonism to see its effects on other variables? Can I do that? Is there a way to modify hedonism? If no, then can a Quasi-experimental design be adopted in this case?
My opinion is that anything can be manipulated in an experimental study if one is creative enough.
However, I think that this forum will need more information about your project before suggesting further.
I agree with Philip Adams , and would go further by stating it depends on your operational definition of hedonism. Do you see hedonism as an innate trait or personality element? Basic intrinsic motivational factors (seeking of pleasurable experiences or states / avoidance of unpleasurable experiences or states)? Or merely a set of self-gratifying behaviors?
In the end, this goes back to the underlying theory which is driving your research question. Perhaps if you can tell us more about that, we can assist you further in thinking through your design.
