Soil quality is equated with soil health and same minimum data set is used for both. Soil health is now being linked to plant health and in turn to animal/human health. However there are no parameters in the minimum data set which have direct bearing to animal/human health. Though air and water quality are included in the definition of soil health, the air and water quality are not measured. The wells in the farm and nearby water bodies may better reflect the soil contamination with respect to nutrients, heavy metals and pathogens in nearby agricultural area. So, can ground /surface water analysis in agricultural areas be used as indicator of soil health?
